TWENTY-TWO

After unpacking their gear, the SAS team headed inside the bar to relax. The atmosphere among them was relatively calm. The three additional operatives who joined the team were busy going over mission details.

Thanks to the surveillance drones patrolling the island, satellite imagery, and an assortment of other intel from NATO and Greek counter-terrorist forces boats, they pretty much had the entire operation planned out.

Every minute.

Every action.

The terrorists themselves had funnelled the survivors into the hotel.

According to the data, there was believed to be about thirty terrorists on the island.

The operation was going to be two-fold. Colt and his team would be flying in early in the morning. They’d make their way to the south side of the hotel, right by the hotel parking lot. They weren’t to engage with any hotel targets until 8am. That was when NATO and Greek forces would make a move. The idea was to draw some of the enemies out of the hotel.

Colt and his team would then move in and eliminate the terrorists and rescue the hostages. They’d lead them back to the helicopters and fly back to the main land.

“Ready for the action, boys,” Colt said to the group of SAS lads who were sitting around the table, going over the schematics of the hotel. “Who wants a drink?”

One them, his name tag said ‘Nelson,’ looked up at Colt. “No,” he said. “The drinks can wait.”

Colt nodded. He was surprised at their commitment. Times had changed. Back in his day, the night before a mission was full of drunkenness and profanity.

These kids were good.

Disciplined.

He had to respect it.

But the one that bothered him was Drake. The CIA operative had kept his distance since they arrived at the safe house. After unpacking his bag in his room, he walked to the main room and noticed that Drake was talking to Hurt. The two of them were alone.

Colt decided to ask Drake what the hell was going on. He wanted to talk.

"Is that all?" Colt heard Drake ask Hurt. "Anything else?"

“No.” She noticed Colt from the corner of her eye and ended the conversation. "Something wrong?" she asked.

"I want to talk to Jason," Colt said.

"Right," Hurt said. “I need to get my equipment set up anyway. We’ll talk more later, Jason.”

Drake and Colt walked outside.

The sun had begun to set, and the sky was a vibrant orange. Yet, there were hints of clouds on the horizon. Weather reports made it clear that the operation would take place during a bad storm.

"What's the matter?" Drake asked.

"What's going on? She's telling you things?"

"It's a complex operation, Clyde."

"When I agreed to join your little special 'Catalyst' team I expected to be more in the loop."

"If I didn't recommend you for Catalyst, you'd be back in London teaching cadets how to land a helicopter while taking enemy fire."

"You're a bastard, y'know."

"I know," Drake said. "There's something about this operation, something that's different than the ones before. Just know that your goal is to rescue the hostages."

"And your's?"

"I don't know," Drake said.
